Humility as a Way of Life
Being humble is an expensive virtue which takes a lifetime to master and a great deal of will power to practice. This involves a certain amount of reduction in one's ego, which is the slippery step to overcome. More often than not, foolish pride and ego hinder spiritual growth. When you start serving others, your ego reduction process is under way and the spiritual growth starts. But take care to see that this does not turn out to be an ego building exercise.
When we do things that reduce the control of our ego over reality we feel the presence of the Super Power, commonly referred to as God. There are many creative ways to experience this. You could read to a blind person for instance, or just be nice to the person sitting next to you. When we selflessly serve others, we are serving ourselves, enhancing our own spiritual and emotional maturity. When your heart is open, you feel good about serving others.

"I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may, - light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful ."
