The Tree that Ate a Bicycle on Vashon Island, Washington

“A boy left his bike chained to a tree when he went away to war in 1914.  He never returned, leaving the tree no choice but to grow around the bike.  Incredibly, this bike has been there for 98 years!”
The videographer says:
I had first heard of the bike in tree many years ago and always wanted to go see it, rumor has it that in the early century some kid left his bike next to a tree and forgot about it.
The bike referenced in the christmas book " Red Ranger Came Calling " by Berkeley Breathed, check it out it's a good read.
I don't make it onto the island that much and heard it isn't easy to find, Then I heard it had been vandalized and figured it was a lost cause, I happened to be riding my scooter around the island and decided to try to find it,
I ended getting directions from a cab driver and when I finally saw it I was surprised to find most of it still there, the handlebars are missing but it is still very recognizable as a Bike in a tree,
Update: Since many rumors and conflicting stories about how the bike got into the tree have been circulation on the web, I have been doing alot of research on the bike in tree and talking to the island locals, plan on doing a video C.S.I. style on what I find.
