Being an Example

Being an Example

The story is told of Benjamin Franklin wanting to install street lightening in Philadelphia. He knew the city fathers wouldn't pay the price for the installation, so he hung a beautiful lantern on a bracket in front of his home to give light.

When people would pass his house, after stumbling in the dark in other areas, they would rejoice in Franklin's well-lit area. It was not long before his neighbors did just as he did and hung lanterns in front of their homes. Before long, the whole city begin to see the value of lighting the streets.

What Ben Franklin achieved was not by arguments, but by example. One example is worth a thousand arguments. No wonder God's Word tells us to be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.

May our prayer be for the God to make our lives and influence count for the good of others and for God's glory. "One can chase a thousand and two can put ten thousand" to flight, if the Lord be the Rock of their salvation. Together, God's people can make a difference as "salt and light" in this world.
