A Teacher's Story

I am a teacher but my story goes to long back when I was a student in class 10th. Unlike today's sincere students, I was never very serious in study but I used to dream a lot . I thought everything is possible with a little bit of effort. I started preparing for the competition like other classmates of mine.

I did the usual engineering coaching etc. and thought I will clear the IITs and everything will be taken care of.

I was shocked when I did not clear the IIT neither any other engineering colleges.

I enrolled in one of the private engineering college. I forgot the pain of failure and spent four years happily enjoying with the friends, copying/sharing assignments, clearing the engineering papers etc. a We all started applying for the interview/placement in the final year. Not learning from the mistakes I gain assumed that I just need to face the interview and everything will be taken care of. It was a big mistake and again I got rejected during the first stage itself like majority f my batch mates. Only 10 % of the batch got good jobs.

My self-esteem became low. I lost confidence and avoided meeting people. With great effort and some contacts, I got a job as a teaching assistant in one of the technical college. The owner treats the teachers like shit as if we are his servants. Worst I see the students repeating the same mistake of assuming that everything will be taken care of and they will get good jobs when they graduate.

I tried guiding them but they mockingly brushed me off. May be for students enjoying with friends, having fun is more important at this stage of life but they don't know a bitter , struggle awaits outside and by the time they will realize there will be no solution left then to struggle. They need to make efforts now otherwise a whole life will be wasted with failed dreams like mine. Though there are things to be learn from the success stories more important lessons are learnt from the failures.

Some of the lessons learnt are.

Do not assume that things will be taken care by itself. If you make ordinary effort you will live an ordinary life. You need to make extraordinary efforts to achieve something better than others. In achieving any thing whether an entrance examination or getting a job the odds are against you. And only one in ten or more is successful so you need to be better than 90 % of the people to achieve something. Do the students even realize that.??

Benchmark yourself- compare with others are you better than the 90 % of the people or not if not what are the gaps and how can you become better than the 90 % of the people.

Get information, become more aware sometimes it is not only the hard work but the smart work which makes you successful. You should not only be efficient but also effective. Some of the students feel that only scoring good marks in the college will lead to get a good jobs, remember that you are competing with the brightest students nationally and as usual the competition is far more intense there.
